TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE TO STUDENTS INSTRUCTIONS

Direct Transport Aid for Rural Students

In a significant step toward equitable education, the School Education Department of Andhra Pradesh, under the Samagra Shiksha programme, has initiated a transport allowance scheme for the academic year 2025–26. This initiative is designed to support school-going children residing in remote and inaccessible areas by offering direct financial assistance to cover daily travel costs.

Why This Initiative?
Many students living in hilly regions, scattered habitations, or villages without nearby schools face daily struggles in accessing education. To address these challenges and reduce dropout rates, the state has sanctioned a transport allowance that is credited directly to the student’s mother’s bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Primary Level: Children living over 1 km from the nearest government primary school.

  • Upper Primary: Those residing more than 3 km away.

  • Secondary Level: Students who travel more than 5 km to the nearest government or local body secondary school.
Importantly, the child must travel via public transport (bus, auto, cycle, etc.) and be enrolled in the nearest government-managed institution. Private school students are not eligible.

How Much and How Long?
Eligible students will receive ₹600 per month for 10 months a total of ₹6,000 annually per child.

Technology-Powered Implementation:
The LEAP (Logistics and Educational Assistance Portal) App plays a central role in identifying eligible students. Cluster Resource Mobile Teachers (CRMTs) verify student data, which is then authenticated by Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) and Additional Project Coordinators (APCs). Once approved, funds are disbursed every quarter through DBT.

Ensuring Accountability:
Strict instructions have been issued to all levels of educational administration—from ALSCOs to Headmasters—to ensure accurate data entry and timely submission. Any lapse in data verification or misuse of funds will attract direct responsibility.

Looking Ahead:
This structured and digitized approach not only aids students but strengthens the trust in public education infrastructure. It underscores the government's commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind due to geographical barriers.
