 National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) – Andhra Pradesh 2025



The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. This program aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections and encourage them to continue their secondary education.

Every year, 1,00,000 students across India are selected under the NMMS Scholarship. Out of this, 4,087 scholarships are allotted to Andhra Pradesh, distributed among districts based on child population and enrollment in Classes VII & VIII.

The Director of Government Examinations, Andhra Pradesh has been conducting the NMMS Exam since August 2008 for students studying in Class VIII in:

  • Government Schools

  • Local Body Schools

  • Municipal Schools

  • Aided Schools

  • Model Schools (without Residential Facility)

Selection is based on merit and the state reservation norms.

NMMS Exam Pattern 2025

The NMMS examination is divided into two tests:

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)

  • 90 Multiple Choice Questions

  • 90 Marks (1 mark each)

  • No negative marking

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

  • 90 Multiple Choice Questions (covering Class VII & VIII syllabus)

  • Subjects: Social Science, Science & Mathematics

  • 90 Marks (1 mark each)

  • No negative marking

Total Duration (MAT + SAT): 180 Minutes

Qualifying Percentage

  • General, BC & PH Candidates: 40% (36 Marks)

  • SC & ST Candidates: 32% (29 Marks)

👉 Note: Students must qualify in both MAT & SAT with the required aggregate marks.


NMMS Scholarship Amount

  • Each selected student will receive ₹12,000/- per annum.

  • Students must open a joint SBI/Nationalized Bank Account with parents linked with Aadhaar.

  • Applications must be submitted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP): www.scholarships.gov.in

  • Applications are verified by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) and District Nodal Officer (DNO).

  • Disbursement is done by SBI, New Delhi through Aadhaar Based Payment System.

  • Students should frequently check NSP Student Login for status updates.


Examination Fee

As per G.O Rt No.713 dated 25/09/2008:

  • O.C / B.C Students: ₹100/-

  • SC / ST Students: ₹50/-

As per G.O.Ms.No.46 dated 19/04/2025, Scheduled Castes have been classified into three sub-groups (Group I, II & III).


Parental Income Limit

The parental income of the applicant should not exceed ₹3,50,000/- per annum from all sources.
